OVERVIEW

National Children's Mental Health Awareness Week is the first of May and shines a spotlight on the importance of caring for every child's mental health. Never has this been more urgent, as the nation and state see an alarming rise in the incidence of mental health concerns in children.
Where it started
In 2013, Texas System of Care hosted the first statewide Children’s Mental Health Awareness campaign, as we sought to “Shine a Light” on the importance of positive mental health as an essential component of health child development. Over the years, we have hosted festivals, held community walks, supported state proclamations, and joined together as a state community as families and champions.
Moving From "Awareness" to "acceptance"
This year, we hope that we have even greater participation as we shift the discussion from “Awareness” to Acceptance. The National Federation of Families, a family-run organization, noted that the pandemic has everyone talking about mental health and it is time to change the “A” to acceptance!
